A pair of students at MIT have raised $500,000 in bitcoin, which they intend to distribute evenly among fellow students this fall, in the hopes of creating a digital currency ecosystem. Each of the 4,528 undergrads at MIT will receive $100 in bitcoin. To help them prepare, the leaders of this MIT Bitcoin Project are organizing a Bitcoin Expo on campus May 3rd, and have issued a challenge to fellow students, saying “When you step onto campus this fall, all of your classmates are going to have access to bitcoin; what are YOU going to build to give them interesting ways to use it?”

Gox announced proceedings into any filed claims would not commence until February 2015, creditors from both the US and Canadian class action lawsuits met with the investor group hoping to revive the company and agreed on a proposed settlement in the hopes of a speedier and more satisfactory resolution. The Fundación will help extend the Bitcoin Foundation's efforts to promote the digital currency in Mexico, where “The use of Bitcoin… is at an upward trend. The need for education, standardization, protection and promotion has become essential.”

Bitcoin's elimination of chargeback risk may spark serious e-commerce growth for entrepreneurs like Kunmi in the developing world.
In response to the disastrous tornadoes in Arkansas, which demolished homes and left at least 15 dead on Sunday night, non-profit disaster relief organization Team Rubicon has launched a support operation and turned to bitcoin to help fund their efforts.
